WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING ACCUTANE CASES

First approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 1982 for treatment of severe acne, Accutane—active ingredient isotretinoin—has dozens of dangerous side effects. Pulled from the market by Accutane’s maker, Hoffman-LaRoche, Inc. in 2009, there are many generic drugs containing isotretinoin that are still available to patients today. If you have taken Accutane or isotretinoin and suffered harm as a result, you may have a cause of action against the dangerous drug’s manufacturer.

The Dangers of Accutane

Taking Accutane and other isotretinoin containing drugs has been linked to a multitude of serious health concerns. According to an Accutane Medication Guide provided by the FDA, the risks of Accutane include:
  • Birth defects;
  • Depression;
  • Psychosis;
  • Suicide;
  • Serious brain problems (including seizures and stroke);
  • Skin problems;
  • Rectal bleeding;
  • Bowel pain;
  • Bone and muscle problems;
  • Hearing and vision problems;
  • Increased blood lipids;
  • Diabetes;
  • Decreased red and white blood cell count; and
  • Serious allergic reaction.
Other generic drugs that contain isotretinoin include Amnesteem, Claravis, and Sotret.

Who Is Liable for Harm Caused by Accutane?

There are multiple parties who may be held liable in civil litigation for harm caused by Accutane. Most commonly, a drug’s manufacturer is held liable for harm caused to patients as a direct result of the drug. In fact, Hoffman-LaRoche, Inc. has already been ordered to pay more than $50 million to Accutane victims. Other parties who may be held liable in pharmaceutical litigation include a drug distributor, a doctor, a hospital, a pharmacist, or a pharmacy.
